Description

This Time For Africa is a single-player and cooperative survival simulation game developed by the independent studio Savannah Digital. The game is set in a procedurally generated region of the African savanna during the late 19th century. The player assumes the role of a colonial expedition leader tasked with mapping uncharted territories, establishing a supply base, and managing a team of specialists. The primary objective is to survive the environmental hazards, resource scarcity, and geopolitical tensions of the era. The game features a dynamic weather system, a day-night cycle, and a complex ecosystem of wildlife that reacts to player actions. Success is measured by the completion of cartographic surveys, the preservation of crew health, and the ethical management of local interactions. The game does not include a traditional narrative; instead, events are generated through a system of random encounters and player-driven decisions. The title is a reference to the historical scramble for African territories, though the game presents no explicit political commentary.

Instructions

Gameplay is divided into two phases: the overworld map and the local exploration mode. On the overworld map, the player moves the expedition party using the W, A, S, and D keys. The mouse is used to select destinations and interact with points of interest. The spacebar pauses the game for strategic planning. The local exploration mode is activated when the party enters a dense area or a settlement. In this mode, the camera is controlled with the mouse, and the player clicks on objects or characters to initiate actions. The inventory is accessed by pressing the I key, where items can be combined or used. The journal, opened with the J key, records discovered landmarks and species. Crew management is handled through the C key, which displays health, morale, and hunger levels. The player issues commands by clicking on a crew member and then selecting an action from a radial menu. Combat is turn-based and initiated automatically when hostile wildlife or armed groups are encountered. The player selects attacks or defensive maneuvers from a list of options using the number keys 1 through 6. The escape key opens the main menu, allowing the player to save, load, or adjust graphics and sound settings.
