Gameplay in Starfield Lines is divided into two primary modes: Navigation and Survey. In Navigation mode, the player controls the Surveyor-class ship using a point-and-click interface on a star map. The keyboard keys W, A, S, and D adjust the ship’s orientation within a system, and the spacebar activates the quantum drive for travel along a plotted Line. The E key deploys a probe to collect samples from a targeted object. The Tab key opens the inventory and resource management screen, where fuel and data cores can be allocated. The F key activates the ship’s shields during hostile encounters, and the R key initiates emergency repairs.
