Description
BlackenedSun is a single-player, third-person survival horror game developed by Void Engine Studios and released in 2023. The game is set in the fictional, perpetually eclipsed city of Umbra, where a catastrophic event known as the "Blackening" has extinguished all natural light and caused the dead to reanimate. The player assumes the role of Dr. Elias Vance, a geophysicist who was part of the team that triggered the disaster. The narrative unfolds through environmental storytelling, audio logs, and fragmented radio transmissions. The primary objective is to navigate the decaying urban environment, restore power to a central facility, and reverse the Blackening effect. The game features a dynamic lighting system where the player must rely on a limited-use handheld generator and scavenged light sources to survive. Enemies, referred to as "Shades," are hostile entities that are repelled by light but become aggressive in darkness. The game world is non-linear, with multiple districts to explore, each containing puzzles, resources, and lore. A persistent threat is the "Corruption," a black, tar-like substance that spreads across surfaces and damages the player on contact. The game has no traditional health bar; instead, damage is indicated by visual distortion and audio cues. A single death results in a permanent save deletion, forcing a restart from the beginning.

Instructions
Gameplay and controls are designed around resource management and environmental interaction. The player character moves with the W, A, S, and D keys. The mouse controls camera rotation and aiming. The left mouse button activates the primary tool: the handheld generator, which emits a cone of light. The right mouse button performs a melee attack with a crowbar, used to break obstacles and fend off Shades at close range. The scroll wheel cycles through inventory items, including batteries, flares, and medical stimulants. The E key interacts with objects, such as doors, terminals, and lootable containers. The Q key drops a flare, which provides a temporary area of light. The R key reloads the generator's battery. The Spacebar performs a short sprint, which consumes stamina indicated by a peripheral blur effect. The Tab key opens the inventory screen, where items can be combined or examined. The M key opens a map, which does not show the player's location and must be navigated using landmarks. The F key uses a radio to receive transmissions, which can provide clues or attract enemies. The game has no pause function; opening the inventory or map does not stop in-game time. The player must manage generator battery life, which depletes faster when moving. Standing still reduces drain. The objective is to reach the central spire, activate three power nodes, and survive the final confrontation with the source of the Blackening.
