7-Zip for Windows can now use more than 64 CPU threads for compression
to zip/7z/xz archives and for the 7-Zip benchmark. If there are more than one processor group in Windows (on systems with more than 64 cpu threads), 7-Zip distributes running CPU threads across different processor groups.
bzip2 compression speed was increased by 15-40%.
deflate (zip/gz) compression speed was increased by 1-3%.
improved support for zip, cpio and fat archives.
fixed some bugs and vulnerabilities.

I scanned it myself the installed files and the installer with up to date Microsoft Defender AV..
and it came up clean. hmm... probably a false positive.

Thanks for the release! Now that 2025 is the year that Windows 10 support is ending (and that the majority of Windows users are running Windows 11), are we finally going to see 7-Zip be implemented into the Windows 11 context menu?

I downloaded the 25.00 update, but when I tried to run the installer, I got this error message:
Windows cannot acces the specified device, path, or file. You might not have the appropiate permissions to access the item. I have been using 7-zip for years and I have never had this happen before. Using Windows 11 24H2 home, all latest updates installed. 24.09 (x64) is working without any problem.

That's almost certainly because Windows Defender is blocking it (as discussed above), so you'll need to set up an exclusion in Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Windows Security -> Virus & threat protection.

I love 7-zip, have been using it for ages. However, the new Windows 11 right click menu kinda killed 7-zip for me because it's now stuck under "Show more options" which creates unnecessary clicks to reach 7-zip so I often don't even use it and resort to Windows built-in tool which sucks, but it's faster to reach.
Can we hope for 7-zip integration into main level of right click context menu? But I also don't want to disable the new menu entirely to revert back to old one.
For example I have Notepad++ integrated into main part of right click context menu. Can we have 7-zip there as well if we want to? Thanks

Igor may use the InstallAware Context Menu Bridge to help with this problem. From the publisher's Google summary: "InstallAware effortlessly bridges your existing IContextMenu interfaces to IExplorerCommand without any recompile or code changes."

I tried to install the update today via winget and it reported the installer as containing a trojan.
Considering the virus detects Trojan, It needs to be digitally signed like did Legacy Update by Kirb.
Digital Signature certificate costs expensive. That is where it requires paid money to use digital signature.
See the topic I made here
For open source projects, there is the option of completely free certificates. Some suggestions for this have already been made in this forum. I would be very happy to see this implemented ...

That looks like Microsoft Defender.

Hi @ipavlov,
Thanks for your new version!
It is possible to use the CalVer, YY.MM for releases?
For example, currently, we are in July 2025 -> 25.07.
Thanks in advance.
Note: Thanks for GitHub update too:
VirusTotal detects it as malicious on 2/70 - https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/7b67375b2b303e05d2989f23e986126eda67435c71231fa4b0bdaeb7a619a0a6/detection
HybridAnalysis calls it malicious, as well with a score of 75/100 - https://hybrid-analysis.com/sample/7b67375b2b303e05d2989f23e986126eda67435c71231fa4b0bdaeb7a619a0a6/6869726b35a4dae2620cf548

Installer and the installed files all came up clean, according to ESET.

congratulations on the release 7-zip 25.00

Try to reboot system and install 7-zip again.
The installer finally worked, but now I am getting the same message when I try to run 7-zip.
